A Few Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Masturbation

image

It’s good for you

No, seriously, it is. For one, it’s the only kind of sex you will ever have where there is no risk involved – providing you’re not inserting strange implements into yourself, or using materials likely to give you thrush. But what I really mean is, you won’t get pregnant or catch anything (provided your toys are protected if you use them with someone else), and your vibrator won’t break your heart (unless the batteries run out mid wank).Achieving orgasm itself is healthy for lots of reasons; the release of all the feel-good and relaxation hormones can help you sleep, therefore letting your hands wander, or playing with your favourite vibrating friend before bed will guarantee you a good night’s sleep.

These very same hormones are the ones that also:·

help relieve stress and tension,
making you look and feel better·
boost your immune system
·
release endorphins which can help ease period pain
·
keep your bodily parts healthy (and not just those ones!)

It makes you want more sex

This is the one you’ll have trouble explaining to your partner. Some guys seem to think that because you’re masturbating, either manually or with a toy, that it somehow reflects on them. They often get it into their heads that you’re playing with yourself because they are not very good in bed, or aren’t satisfying you. Granted, that may occasionally be the case, but that’s up to the couple to sort those problems out by being honest with one another. Usually, it’s just because you want to ‘scratch the itch,’ so to speak. Men may think that because you’ve masturbated, that you will no longer be interested in sex. This just isn’t true. Sometimes people get horny at strange times, and for no particular reason (come on guys, isn’t your ‘morning glory’ the perfect example?!) and a little light relief is just what the doctor ordered. The libido is a funny thing and sometimes if you ignore it too often, it will decide it’s not wanted and simply go away. The phrase ‘use it or lose it’ springs to mind. However, far from being a way of getting out of sex, or as a replacement, healthy masturbation can aid the sex drive because you will get into a cycle. The more sex you have, the more you seem to want. Which is why it’s important not to neglect your sex drive, because it may disappear altogether and need some serious TLC to bring it back. So partners should be encouraging their ladies to masturbate more and leave them with a nice happy, healthy and horny woman!

It helps you to realise what you want in bed

Masturbation doesn’t just have to be about orgasm (although it’s a damn good excuse to keep doing it!) – it’s about pleasure. Some women do just like to play with themselves until they climax, but others take time to explore their bodies (and this may be what they need to do to find the ever-elusive orgasm) and slowly build their arousal until they’re ready to touch their genitals. It’s important to remember that every woman is different, and likes to be touched in a different way. Which is why guys should be eternally grateful if they have a partner who knows exactly what she wants in bed. Providing, of course, that she’s brave enough to voice these feelings. A woman who masturbates knows how to get herself off, which means she’s more likely to be able to teach her man to do it for her, therefore enhancing the sexual experience between the couple. Hey, after a while, he may even be able to do it unaided! So, as well as feeling really good when you play with yourself, you’re also exploring your own body and finding out your likes and dislikes. It can be an uncomfortable conversation to have with your partner, but it’s better to find a way of telling him what you want, rather than having him discover things all on his own. Some things may be great, and you never want him to stop, which is excellent news. However, he may do something that makes you want to scream (in a bad way) and kick him out of your bed immediately. Best he knows what you hate, at least. That way you’re unlikely to be getting fresh together when suddenly he hits the ‘off’ button and you’re no longer horny, just cringing. There are nice ways of telling a guy, or at least hinting.

If you’re brave, and he has thick skin, you could just be straight and say ‘I don’t like such and such.’ He could just shrug, accept it, and move on to the next body part. He could also get all sulky and offended, in which case you’re going to have to do some ego-massaging. Either way you’ll be laughing when he gets it right. Or should I say gasping.A more subtle way would be to gently lead his hands, or tongue, or whatever, away from doing the thing you don’t like and guiding him to do something you do like. Hopefully he’ll get the idea. Finally, if you really want to boost his ego, tell him what you love. If he’s doing something you like, make it vocal. If he knows you’re enjoying something, he’ll do it all the more. Guys like to know they’re doing a good job of pleasing their woman, and sometimes groans and moans don’t him home. If you love it, tell him. If you don’t, well then it’s up to you how you get your message across. But make sure you do, because do you really want to spend time in bed with someone that you dread is going to do that ‘thing’ you hate?
