With the variety of lubrications on the market, it would be easy to become confused about which one would be the correct one to use for you and/or your sex toy. However, it need not be like that at all. By learning about the individual lubrication types, you can make an accurate and informed choice of the correct lube to use.
Lubrications are designed to make sexual activity of any kind more enjoyable with the least amount of pain or friction possible. Many different situations or events during our lives can affect the amount of natural lubrication we produce and will in turn lead to the need to turn to that little extra help. Penetration of a penis and/or a sex toy in whichever orifice of the body without adequate and correct lubrication can lead you to develop soreness, tears, pain throughout your body and can help to reduce the lifespan of your favourite toy. It can also encourage infections especially in the more delicate areas of the body where the skin has split or has been irritated.
Natural events that can cause a decrease of natural lubrication include childbirth, hormonal changes i.e. the menopause, ill health, medication, stress, fatigue and the menstrual cycle. If naturally, you do not tend to produce an awful lot of lube even without going through these additional events then extra help in that department is an absolute must. If you are lucky to be well lubricated without any help, extra lubrication will enhance your sexual enjoyment that little bit more.
Tips for Lubrication Use:
• Use water-based lube on her breasts or other areas of her body to enhance the sensation of your kisses, licks and sucks.
• Silicone lube is a great moisturiser and feels wonderful on very sensitive parts of her body like the clitoris or nipples.
• Start foreplay off by using lubrication on her vaginal area to help penetration.
• Use lubrication to aid masturbation especially with use of sex toys. Make sure you use the correct lubrication for your toy.
Which Lube for Which Toy?
• Use water-based lubrication with any sex toy and use it for solo play, too. You can use water-based lube for penetration but you may find a thicker lube is better. A popular water based lube is KY Jelly and it is ideal for clitoral, g-spot stimulation and penetration. It is safe for use with your sex toys, method of contraception and will not stain your bed sheets.
• Do not use oil-based lubricants with latex condoms or jelly based toys. Some anal lubes are petroleum based which will not only destroy latex (condoms, diaphragms but it will also irritate your vagina. Therefore, for anal penetration use latex-free condoms if you intend to use a petroleum based lube.
• Do not use silicone lubricants with silicone toys. They are waterproof, more expensive than waterproof lubrications but tend to last a long time, as less of the product is needed for adequate lubrication. They are safe to use with latex condoms and can be used internally with no adverse reactions.
• Flavoured lubes are great for oral sex for obvious reasons. Sugar free ones are best to prevent yeast infections and they are available in many different flavours. Yum! Flavoured lubes are water-based so are safe for use with sex toys and condoms.
• Warming lubes are water-based lubricants with special ingredients that become warm on contact with your skin. The heat increases when you start rubbing or blowing the area where it is applied.
Household lubricants are best avoided though Vaseline can be used for clitoral play only. It is known for Vaseline to carry yeast infections, vaginal acne along with cooking oil so do not use for vaginal penetration and with condoms.
